2010 Celebration of Light – Tribute to China
Sunday, August 1st, 2010 :: 7:08 pm
The last fireworks show of the year was supposed to be put on by China, the winners of last year’s competition. However, word has it that they weren’t able to put on the show anymore, and instead, it was Team Canada that put on a “Tribute to China” for their win last year.
It also made another interesting fireworks-watching experience. We heard thunder shortly after arriving… and then the rain came pouring down. Everyone stood there not knowing exactly what to do next because no one wanted to give up the spot they had saved for 4 hours! Good thing the rain stopped after half an hour… or else it would’ve been a rather disappointing night.
I had to say, if the last show was included as a fourth competing country, it would’ve been quite a hard choice between Canada and Spain, who was the winner. The pace was a lot quicker than Mexico, and there were little “down-time” as they kept the show interesting throughout. I loved their use of colours and interesting fireworks (like the shooting stars, and the ones that crossed each other). Towards the end, they literally blew up the sky, where there were thousands of fragments of glittering shells, capping an epic ending.
